March 30th 2013. Pick Of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

The Andrew Sarris tribute at Anthology Film Archives screens its penultimate today. WITCHITA, Jacques Tourneur's CinemaScope re-telling of the Wyatt Earp legend, triple-bills with Frank Tashlin's BACHELOR FLAT, a prime example of the auteur's patented skewering of postwar Americana, and Joseph H. Lewis' budget Hitchcock MY NAME IS JULIA ROSS. Neat stuff. Not my Pick.
The 92YTribeca's weekend trib to outlier stylist Curtis Harrington offers screenings of the fauxteur's WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH HELEN? and WHO SLEW AUNTIE ROO? The two films took as their jumping off point Robert Aldrich's WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?, but Harrington banked on the effette charms of one Shelley Winters in both films to provide more scares than Joan Crawford and Bette Davis combined. You be the judge tonight. Not Me.
And midnight screenings tonight include three films that share a common theme. Jean Rollin's REQUIEM FOR A VAMPIRE crawls from its crypt at the Nitehawk Cinema in Billy-burg, while Paul Verhoeven's ROBOCOP respawns at the IFC Center. However much I disregard one flick and love the other, there is only one true choice this Easter weekend, the ultimate comedy about the very essence of this holiday we either share or spurn; ressurrection.
Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN screens at midnight at the IFC Center! What hump?
