December 4th 2013. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

The month in rep film begins cooly, no pun intended, as programmers showcase some interesting offerings before bringing the real heat starting this weeekend. Series today are limited to MoMA's ongoing Auteurist History of Film and the Film Society's cheerily monickered Ozu and his Afterlives. The full prognosis;

Film Forum

MAUVAIS SANG (1986) Dir; Leos Carax

MoMA

BILLY LIAR (1963) Dir; John Schlesinger

Film Society of Lincoln Center

EQUINOX FLOWER (1958) Dir; Yasujiro Ozu

AN AUTUMN AFTERNOON (1962) Dir; Yasujiro Ozu

Today's Pick? Seeing as it's among the last of my chances to celebrate the CV of one of the titans of world cinema, I'm going with the Film Society's Ozu huggery up at Lincoln Center. Today we're privy to the master's first color film (EQUINOX) and his last ever film (AFTERNOON). Should you also care to catch Wim Wenders' TOKYO GA, his doc on Ozu and the city he called home, you can go all in with the sheckle-saving three-film ticket package. As the term austere goes hand in hand with Ozu's filmography there couldn't be a more appropriate way to buy in to this series.

And be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter! Back tomorrow with more of what ya like, til then look both ways 'fore ya cross the street and advise the other kids to do likewise. Cheers, Stockahz!
