January 30th 2014. Pick of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Alright. Once again it's way too cold for any of this nonsense. Stay under the blankets until this all blows over, sometime in July. Should ya choose to sacrifice body, mind and indeed soul to this day's crucifying elements, however, the rundown be thus;
Film Forum
MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946) Dir; John Ford
MoMA
THE BIRDS (1963) Dir; Alfred Hitchcock
BowTie Chelsea Cinema
THE POSEIDEN ADVENTURE (1972) Dir; Ronald Neame
Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center
I WAS BORN, BUT... (1932) Dir; Yasujiro Ozu
OH, DOCTOR! (1917) Dir; Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle
Today's Pick? Alfred Hitchcock's DA BOIDZ! Screening as part of MoMA's excellent, ongoing Auteurist History of Film series. As an added plus the museum's screening venues offer ample heat to fend off this Age of Frost Giants. And should it prove insufficient just set fire to the guy in front of you. They let stuff slide up there.
For more info on these and all NYC's remaining classic film screenings in January '14 click on the interactive calendar on the upper right hand side of the page. And be sure to follow me on both Facebook, where I provide further info and esoterica on the rep film circuit and star birthdays, and Twitter, where I provide a daily feed for the day's screenings and other blathery. Back with a brand new Pick tomorrow, til then I don't even want to hear the word winter, especially if it's my fave stripper's nickname. Don't play dumb, Winter!
-Joe Walsh
P. S. Should you be feeling charitable during this harsh weather period please remember to check in with the good folks over at Occupy Sandy. Some of our NY neighbors are still feeling the effects of last year's hurricane. Be a mensch.
