Today's Pick? Well if you're gonna venture beyound your couch, or indeed your bed, this blizzardy day, why not take it a step further and do some borough-hoppin', unless of course you already live in Kings County. I'm going with 1949's THE HEIRESS, William Wyler's stately, stoic and Oscar-winning (which tidily sums up his entire CV) tale of innocent love and those who abuse it, from both within and without the household, screening as part of BAM Cinematek's Vengeance is Hers series. Olivia de Havilland stars as the painfully shy lone child of Ralph Richardson's wealthy but aging Dr. Sloper, who openly displays his contempt for his daughter's reticence. Monty Clift turns up on the scene to woo the lovestruck gal, which raises all sorts of red flags with dad, who judges Monty a fortune hunter and threatens OdH with removal from his will. But how does it end??? The eternally lovely Miss de Havilland, who won her second little gold guy for her perf in this film, is currently not feeling her best, so why not head to BAM as a token of positive energy sent her way, and catch Maid Marian herself at her finest, as she puts a period to the phrase hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

P. S. Should you be feeling charitable during this harsh weather period please remember to check in with the good folks over at Occupy Sandy. Some of our NY neighbors are still feeling the effects of last year's hurricane. Be a mensch.
