August 23rd 2014. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

New and ongoing series today include Strange Lands: International Sci-Fi at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, The Great War: A Cinematic Legacy at MoMA, See It Big!: Hollywood Melodrama at Museum of the Moving Image, Screenwriters and the Blacklist: Before, During and After at Anthology Film Archives, and the innocuously monickered vampier series Bite This! at the Nitehawk. Shall we play a game?

Today's Pick? Without further eloquence I simply plant my interstellar flag in the foreign terrain familiarly summarized as fringe, think-piece Sci-Fi, if only because anything that doesn't fall neatly under Hollywood's umbrella terminology must be regarded as either boring or way too hip/smart for the room. The fact that today's fare, all summarily had at a discounted price, arrive cannister-contained from regions alien yet familiar, only heightens the anticipation. So today, let's smarten ourselves up! Or at least pay for the apearance of such.

The specially-ticketed quartet of KIN-DZA-DZA!, FREAK ORLANDO, IN THE DUST OF THE STARS & EOLOMEA unspool as part of the Strange Lands: International Sci-Fi series at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. I've just taken my first step into a larger auditorium.
