November 11th 2014. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

New, continuing and concluding series today include, rounded out to the most pertinent integer, exactly, bupkis.

However, what screens is indeed among the choicest of repertory screenings. So don't get all hung up on quantity today. Quality reigns. It's what I tell all my girlfriends. I'll shut up now. The emulated emulsification be thus;

Film Forum

ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS (1939) Dir; Howard Hawks

HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR (1959) Dir; Alain Resnais

Film Society of Lincoln Center

MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (1976) Dir; Jimmy Wong Yu*

*Director and star Jimmy Wong Yu in person!

Today's Pick? ACK, it pains me like a Vonnegut canine digesting a diced clock spring to choose between two master filmmakers and their signature efforts, especially when one still walks the earth and does so in the direction of said screening, as does Jimmy Wong Yu for tonight's screening of MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE at the Walter Reade Theater. This is gonna be a once in a lifetime event. Unmissable.

But, really, who'm I kiddin'? Hawks is in the house. Rationality, will power, perspective, h'yeah. Good luck with all that, guys.

Howard Hawks' ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS unspools its newly spit-shined digitized 1's and 0's tonight as part of a weeklong booking at the NYC Cinegeek's most beloved sanctuary, West Houston's Film Forum. Daredevil pilots, transient dancehall performers, Rita Hayworth. If you're starved for anything more from this flick you're simply a greedy person. Look inward, I hope you rediscover your soul.

P. S. We're swiftly returning to the winter climate, and believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
