February 18th 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

SWAMPED! And no, that's not a title of a screening or series this day, it's my current state! My Year-End reviews are nearly complete, as well as my Top Ten list of '14, and need I mention a minute oncoming tsunami known as the First Annual Nitrate Stock Oscar Bash? In any event, ongoing series this day include the Charles Laughton crowd surf at Film Forum, and the Ginger Rogers toe tap at MoMA. Let's get straight to today's goods;

Film Forum

Charles Laughton

ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1933) Dir; Erle C. Kenton

WHITE WOMAN (1933) Dir; Stuart Walker

MoMA

Acteurism: Ginger Rogers

STAGE DOOR (1937) Dir; Gregory La Cava

Today's Pick? La Cava's STAGE DOOR, screening as part of MoMA's series Acteurism, because it reps the sole co-starring of equally legendary thesps Kate Hep and Lucille Ball. Try me.

P. S. We're fully entwined in winter's embrace, and believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
