Snow. Rain. Snow. Baseball. Hello March 2015.

New and continuing series today include the dual tribs to movie star Ginger Rogers and filmmaker Wim Wenders at MoMA, Black & White 'Scope: American Cinema at BAM Cinématek, and the celebration of loony bin cinema entitled Commited! at the Nitehawk Cinema. The repertory rigamrole be thus;

Film Forum

KES (1969) Dir; Ken Loach

MoMA

Acteurism: Ginger Rogers

KITTY FOYLE (1940) Dir; Sam Wood

Wim Wenders

THE LEFT-HANDED WOMAN (1978) Dir; Wim Wenders

THE GOALIE'S ANXIETY AT THE PENALTY KICK (1971) Dir; Wim Wenders

BAM Cinématek

Black & White 'Scope: American Cinema

LONELY ARE THE BRAVE (1962) Dir; David Miller

Nitehawk Cinema

Commited!

SHOCK CORRIDOR (1963) Dir; Sam Fuller

Today's Pick? Kirk Douglas offers an indelible turn in Miller's LONELY ARE THE BRAVE, and my beloved Ginger Rogers bagged the little gold guy, otherwise known as the Oscar, for her turn as rags-to-riches poster girl KITTY FOYLE, but as I consider myself unhinged, maniacal, feverish even, whence my love of cinema is under discussion, I must focus my dysfunctional geekery on a new series dedicated generally to the lunatic within us all. Without, for that matter, as well.

Sam Fuller's SHOCK CORRIDOR unspools tonight as inaugural entry in the Nitehawk Cinema's new and craziest series, maddeningly monickered Commited! If only the Nitehawk were an asylum, I'd apply for one of its padded screening rooms.

P. S. We're fully entwined in winter's embrace, and believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
