March 24th 2015. Pick of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Honesty has always been my greatest asset, whether it be admitting to a party mishap, such as drunkedly breaking a vase, to stalwart and vociferous defense of a position on one or more films. So in that spirit of dedicated honesty, I will admit the following; I'm beat. Let's just get to today's listings, shall we?
Continuing series today include The Most Beautiful: The War Films Of Shirley Yamaguchi and Setsuko Hara at the Japan Society and The Killer Must Kill Again: Giallo Fever, Part Two! at Anthology Film Archives. The ensuing hilarity be thus;
Film Forum
THE TALES OF HOFFMANN (1951) Dirs; Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger
CHINA IS NEAR (1967) Dir; Marco Bellocchio
Japan Society
The Most Beautiful: The War Films Of Shirley Yamaguchi and Setsuko Hara
THE NEW EARTH (1937) Dirs; Arnold Fanck & Mansaku Itami
Anthology Film Archives
The Killer Must Kill Again: Giallo Fever, Part Two!
ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK (1972) Dir; Sergio Martino
TENEBRAE (1982) Dir; Dario Argento
Today's Pick? Why it surely must be Fanck & Itami's THE NEW EARTH, screening as part of the Japan Society's excellent new series The Most Beautiful: The War Films Of Shirley Yamaguchi and Setsuko Hara! And don't call me surely. Or Shirley. This joke travels poorly, methinks.

P. S. We're mercifully feeling the loosening of winter's embrace, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
