March 26th 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

This is yet another year that sees the TCM Film Fest kick off sans moi. The stars will yet align to accomodate my presence, next year most likely. Meanwhile I wish all my TCMParty pals and Nitrate Stock friends a fantastic time! I look forward to your covergae of the weekend's glitz and glam. Have fun!

Continuing series today include the Ginger Rogers threshold-carry at MoMA and The Killer Must Kill Again!: Giallo Fever, Part Two at Anthology Film Archives. The March winddownery be thus;

Film Forum

THE TALES OF HOFFMANN (1951) Dirs; Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger

CHINA IS NEAR (1967) Dir; Marco Bellocchio

MoMA

Actuerism: Ginger Rogers

THE FIRST TRAVELING SALESLADY (1956) Dir; Arthur Lubin

Anthology Film Archives

The Killer Must Kill Again!: Giallo Fever, Part Two

FOOTPRINTS ON THE MOON (1975) Dir; Luigi Bazzoni

THE PSYCHIC (1977) Dir; Lucio Fulci

BowTie Chelsea Cinemas

KISS ME DEADLY (1955) Dir; Robert Aldrich

Today's Pick? Two of the day's selections have already been chosen, and, again, the Bellocchio just doesn't tempt. Aldrich's embrace of noir-sleazeremains not only a fave of the form, but a still-important template for the genre. However I feel like I just made it my Pick fairly recently, and as much as I love supporting the efforts of the rep bookers at the BowTie Chelsea, I think I gotta pass in favor of another sleaze-fest today. In a far sleazier venue. In a far sleazier area. Featuring far sleazier attendees okay you get the idea.

Luigi Bazzoni's FOOTPRINTS ON THE MOON and Lucio Fulci's THE PSYCHIC screen as non-trad double-feature at Anthology Film Archives as part of their weird and wonderfully warped series The Killer Must Kill Again!: Giallo Fever, Part Two. If ever a venue mirrored its program, this is the time. Make sure your emergency contact knows you're going beforehand. All I'm sayin'.

P. S. We're mercifully feeling the loosening of winter's embrace, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
