April 5th 2015. Pick of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Happy Easter, Seester! To those of you Stockahz who observe, I wish you a peaceful day of friends and family celebrating your faith. To those non-observant, hey, no reason ya can't fill up on glazed ham and chocolate anyway. To all, regardless, here's hoping ya catch a classic flick. Continuing series today include Film Forum Jr. at Film Forum, Overdue: James B. Harris at BAM Cinématek, and Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person! at Anthology Fim Archives. The holiday hare hijinks be thus;
Film Forum
THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965) Dir; Robert Wise
Nitehawk Cinema
THE NATURAL (1984) Dir; Barry Levinson
THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987) Dir; Rob Reiner
BAM Cinématek
LOLITA (1962) Dir; Stanley Kubrick
THE KILLING (1958) Dir; Stanley Kubrick
Anthology Film Archives
Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person!
WAR OF THE SATELLITES (1958) Dir; Roger Corman
GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH (1989) Dir; Joe Dante
Today's Pick? Oh hell, I can't think of any more perfect choice for this day that began as pagan fertility ritual and somehow found itself co-opted by the Catholic church. Just goes to show how differently the celebration of new life manifests itself between differing sects. And scabrously sardonic black comic filmmakers of the early 60's.
Stanley Kubrick's LOLITA screens today at BAM Cinématek as part of the series Overdue: James B. Harris. Go now and sin some more.

For reviews of contemporary cinema and my streaming habits (keep it clean!) check out my Letterboxd page. And be sure to follow me on both Facebook, where I provide further info and esoterica on the rep film circuit and star birthdays, and Twitter, where I provide a daily feed for the day's screenings and other blathery. Back soon with new Picks 'n perks, til then safe, sound, make sure the next knucklehead is too!
P. S. We're mercifully feeling the loosening of winter's embrace, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
