April 11th 2015. Pick of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

I don't wanna doubt Thomas Stearns, nor do I wanna jinx what seems to be weather favorable, but cruellest month? At least so far?
Ok I'll stop now. Today's lone continuing series include Strictly Sturges at the Film Forum and Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person! at Anthology Film Archives. The playbill be thus;
Museum of the Moving Image
THE WIZARD OF OZ in 3D (1939) Dir; Victor Fleming
Film Forum
SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS (1942) Dir; Preston Sturges
CHRISTMAS IN JULY (1940) Dir; Preston Sturges
Anthology Film Archives
Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person!
SORORITY GIRL (1957) Dir; Roger Corman
WAR OF THE SATELLITES (1958) Dir; Roger Corman
Landmark Sunshine Cinemas
AKIRA (1988) Dir; Katsushiro Otomo
IFC Center
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) Dir; Stanley Kubrick
PINK FLOYD: THE WALL (1982) Dir; Alan Parker
TAXI DRIVER (1976) Dir; Martin Scorsese
Today's Pick? I'm gonna eschew the normal hem 'n haw and cut to the chase, no matter the quality of the field this day. Can there really be a better option than Katsushiro Otomo's groundbreaking work of anime, a seminal piece of modrnized flipbook that helped usher in the new and glorious golden age of animation, alongside the efforts of MTV, Katzenberg's Disney unit and FOX TV, THE SIMPSONS in particluar? Especially whence it makes its occasional appearance on a big screen? Huh? Hm? Wha?
Didn't think so.
Katsushiro Otomo's AKIRA unspools tonight in a new and gloriously struck set of 1's and 0's as part of the Landmark Sunshine Cinema's Midnight Movie series. 'Nuff sed.
