April 12th 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

I'm currently in the wondrous throes of a PARKS & RECREATION binge on Netflix, and can fully attest that Aubrey Plaza's bitter, chilly, and scabrous character, April, is so far properly monickered. Or so this month's first third would suggest.

Ongoing film series this day include Film Forum Jr. & Strictly Sturges at Film Forum, and Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person! at Anthology Film Archives. The emulsified entice be thus;

Film Forum

Film Forum Jr.

THE NEVERENDING STORY (1984) Dir; Wolfgang Petersen

Strictly Sturges

EASY LIVING (1937) Dir; Mitchell Liesen

REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940) Dir; Mitchell Liesen

Museum of the Moving Image

THE WIZARD OF OZ in 3D (1939) Dir; Victor Fleming

THE HOUSE OF HATE (1918) Dir; George B. Seitz

Anthology Film Archives

Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person!

HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD (1976) Dirs; Joe Dante & Alan Arkush

THE HOWLING (1981) Dir; Joe Dante

Today's Pick? Love the Nitehawk, hate the STORY. The Sturges double-bill at Film Forum tempts, but is ultimately unconvincing. Honestly, although it remains a film cooled to in my adult years, there really is only one option this day. And it's reachable by weather balloon. Or the N train. But, really, weather balloon will get you there in a much more efficient fashion. Any resident of NYC's very own Oz will attest to the same.

Victor Fleming's THE WIZARD OF OZ in 3D screens twice and for the last today at Astoria's very own Museum of the Moving Image. Somewhere, over the 59th street bridge, dreams come true.

P. S. We're mercifully feeling the loosening of winter's embrace, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
