April 22nd 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

As some of you might know, I've set up a charity fundraising drive to provide some worth regarding my attendance at next week's Marvel Movie Marathon. The full details can be found here, and I know that the otherwise myopic focus of this site is on older classic cinema, but in the hopes that a future classic is in the offing, perhaps you'd like to contribute to a good cause. Give it a look!

Continuing series this day include Strictly Sturges at Film Forum and Mad Men at the Movies at BAM Cinématek. The emulsified esoterica be thus;

Film Forum

Strictly Sturges

THE GREAT MCGINTY (1940) Dir; Preston Sturges

THE GREAT MOMENT (1944) Dir; Preston Sturges

MoMA

Acteurism: Joel McCrea

DEAD END (1937) Dir; William Wyler

CITIZEN KANE (1941) Dir; Orson Welles

BAM Cinématek

Mad Men at the Movies

HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINES WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (1967) Dir; David Swift

Today's Pick? What the hell, I'm on a Joel McCrea roll! William Wyler's DEAD END unspoools in glorious B&W 35mm as part of MoMA's supoib series Acteurism! Throw in Bogart, Sylvia Sydney and the Dead End Kids, and you got a Wednesday night in the Bronx! Ah, home.

P. S. We're mercifully feeling the loosening of winter's embrace, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
