April 29th 2015. The Marvel Movie Marathon and the Nitrate Stock Charity Drive!
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Taking a break from the usual business this site normally prioritizes, a focus on and rallying cry for classic repertory cinema screening large, preferably in an almost wholly antiquated celluloid format, in order to bang the gong for the event I will be attending today. And tomorrow. Today and tomorrow. Actually it's going to be like one whole long day. A 27-hour, 11-film day, what me and my geek cronies laughingly referred to back in the wake of the 2012 AVENGERS marathon as the too-ridiculous-to-ever-rationally-be-considered sequel marathon. Except somebody not only considered it rational, they programmed it. Mebbe they ain't too rational, come to think...
In any event, this is where I'll be living for a whole day-plus, starting tonight at 6pm and ending whenever they decide the results of the biochemical warfare testing are conclusive. It's just gotta be, no? 2008's IRON MAN kicks off the shenanigans, to be followed, in order of release, by that same year's THE INCREDIBLE HULK, 2010's IRON MAN 2, 2011's THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA, 2012's THE AVENGERS, 2013's IRON MAN 3 and THOR: THE DARK WORLD, 2014's CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and finally ending with the newest big bang from Marvel Studios: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. By this point, I shall be dead. Unless the fates deem me a necessary attendee for FURY ROAD, THE HATEFUL EIGHT, SPECTRE, and THE FORCE AWAKENS,. But nah, probably dead. I simply can't resist the opportunity to eat multiplex chicken strips for 27 hours. And that's how I wanna go out, y'know?
For those of you of charitable dispositions not yet aware, or perhaps not fully understanding, of the charity drive I've begun, one kicked-off to provide some real-world heft to the proceedings, I'm asking to be sponsored through the geekfest/ordeal just as a marathon runner would be; you can choose the charity of your choice to donate to, and donate directly to their website, on the basis that I stay awake through the whole mishegoss. I've even designated SuperHero status levels depending on your level of comittment. You can find all the exacts at my Facebook event page here! We've gotten three screenshots of the donations so far, with tentative pledges from 11 more peeps, which means we could potentially raise somewheres near $1000. But seeing as there are nothing but good causes that demand our attention, let's see if we can't raise this bar as high as possible! If you've already pledged, please help spread the word, for causes ranging from the Nepalese earthquake, to the displaced residents of the 2nd Avenue building collapses, to my personal fave St. Jude's Children's Hospital. If you find yourself beridden by any doubt, just ask yourself a simple question; what would Captain America do? Tragedy don't nap, bebeh. And neither will I if you back a good cause.
So for today, no classic film Pick. Tomorrow no post at all. Perhaps even Friday will find this site un-updated (That's a word, right? Well it is now!), but you will definitely get the May repertory film calendar on the morn of Friday the 1st as you've come to expect. Some biz I never shirk, Stockahz. Til then, I will be live posting/tweeting/gramming/vining throughout the entirety of the Marathon, so check in with me over its course to see just what level of lizard brain I revert to and which film it occured during. I'm thinking THOR: THE DARK WORLD. That's when I'll be crayoning with my feet. Or somebody else's.
So wish me luck, Stockahz! I'll see you on the other side! Onwards, Macduff! The cavalry, or the Calvary, awaits!
