June 4th 2015. Pick of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Forgive the brevity, Stockahz. To quote Khan, time is a luxury I do not have. The ability to provide you with the daily rundown, however, is a luxury I exult in.
Continuing series today include The Apu Trilogy at Film Forum, Black & White 'Scope: International Cinema at BAM Cinématek, and This is Celluloid: 35mm! at Anthology Film Archives.

THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH (1964) Dir; Roger Corman
THE WORLD IN HIS ARMS (1952) Dir; Raoul Walsh
Today's Pick? We got another crack at an all-dayer with the Apu trilogy, a chance to spend some time with Naruse's WOMAN, with Cukor's WOMEN, and to hang with Vincnt Price as both Death and its most deserving target in one of the best of Corman's Poe cycle. However, a flat-out masterpiece of noir, the 50's crime exposé procedural, and a spectacular example of the B-flick outshining the A screens its last tonight at Film Forum. Plus Richard Widmark oils up the screen, and the exceptional Thelma Ritter walks off with the proceedings. Unmissable is putting it lightly, skipping this film is damn near irredeemable for the Cinegeek. So hop to it, willya?!?
Sam Fuller's PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET screens all day today for its last at Film Forum, in a glorious new 4K DCP resto! Make sure ya get there early to snag yer cherce seat, ya woim!

P. S. The warm cuddle of the sun's friendlier disposition seems finally to have arrived, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
