Today's Pick? I can't say I'm the man's greatest fan but I've recently, and finally, gotten around to experiencing his legendary CV firsthand, and while it didn't hook me per se I can fully appreciate why his string of 50's melodramas has become not just the stuff of cult worship, but of widespread influence for directors spanning the last 6 decades, running the gamut of auteurs from John Waters to Rainer Werner Fassbinder to Todd Haynes. One of the best and sudsiest of his collaborations with producer Ross Hunter graces our movie-mad burg this eve. Spin cycle never seemed so dreamy.

Douglas Sirk's MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION unspools tonight in fantabulous 35mm as part of MoMA's series Glorious Technicolor: From George Eastman House and Beyond! Bring plenty of Kleenex. And irony.

P. S. The warm cuddle of the sun's friendlier disposition seems finally to have arrived, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
