June 30th 2015. Last Pick of the Month.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Brevity prevails, Stockahz. The good news, though, is that the July calendar looms, the finishing touches still to be placed, and the month is chock full of rep film nuttiness both indoors and out! As always, the pop-up window wimwammery goes live the morning of the 1st, so be sure to check back early tomorrow for the full rundown. And now, to this month's end.

Continuing series today include the close of the wonderful Apu Trilogy at Film Forum, CinéSalon - Jean-Claude Carrièrre: Writing the Impossible at the French Institute, Glorious Technicolor: From George Eastman House and Beyond and 3-D Summer! at MoMA, and Karen Selects at BAM. Today's Pick? My dad's fave flick all-time, of course. He used to expound upon and impart to me the exact worth of this gem, one of the most perfect examples of studio-era magic and Technicolor wonder. He made particular mention, nearly every damn precious tim ewe got to watch this together, of how it absolutely reduced him to his 8-yr old self, nestled into a movie palace seat to witness the bravery and braggadocio of one of the cinema's most romanticized figures, and of the larger-than-life rascal who essayed his finest screen iteration, never to be beat. I relate to my pops on this score as regards the spell Donner's SUPERMAN casts upon me without fail every time I see it, returning me to my 8-yr old self, nestled into a seat at the Loews Paradise theater in 1978. the real magic, though, is that I'm always watching today's Pick with my dad. Every time. Some magic just never diminishes, y'know?

Michael Curtiz's THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD unspools in majestic 35mm as part of MoMA's magnificent series Glorious Technicolor: From George Eastman House and Beyond. I'm guessing Bree Newsome counts this as a fave.

P. S. The warm cuddle of the sun's friendlier disposition seems finally to have arrived, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
