July 8th 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Okay, let me first get adjusted to the fact that a whole week of July's sunny, muggy goodness has already slipped by. Seems like just yesterday for the last 46 years I was bitching about Winter and pining for picnic weather. Or picnicking for pining weather. Slow down, Summer '15, let's get to know each other why don't we?

The lone ongoing series today is MoMA's exceptional Glorious Technicolor: From Eastman House and Beyond. The rest of the jiggery-pokery be thus;

Film Forum

THE THIRD MAN (1949) Dir; Carol Reed

GOODFELLAS (1990) Dir; Martin Scorsese

MoMA

Glorious Technicolor: From Eastman House and Beyond

COBRA WOMAN (1944) Dir; Robert Siodmak

THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM (1933) Dir; Michael Curtiz

THE RIVER (1950) Dir; Jean Renior

Pier One, Riverside Park South

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990) Dir; Tim Burton

Nitehawk Cinema

THE GODFATHER PART II (1974) Dir; Francis Ford Coppola

Today's Pick? The three-fer at MoMA: Siodmak's COBRA WOMAN, Curtiz's WAX MUSEUM, and Renoir's RIVER, part of the museum's fantastic series Glorious Technicolor: From Eastman House and Beyond! All attendable for separate $10 admission fees, OR you could just plunk down the 85 clams and become a MoMA member. In addition to free member screenings of some of the choicest rep cinema this movie-mad burg has to offer, I hear there's a pretty nifty museum attached to this screening space. One day I'll discover for myself.

For more info on these and all NYC's rep film screenings in July '15 click on the interactive calendar on the upper right hand side of the page. For reviews of contemporary cinema and my streaming habits (keep it clean!) check out my Letterboxd page. And be sure to follow me on both Facebook, where I provide further info and esoterica on the rep film circuit and star birthdays, and Twitter, where I provide a daily feed for the day's screenings and other blathery. Back soon with new Picks 'n perks, til then safe, sound, make sure the next knucklehead is too!

P. S. The warm cuddle of the sun's friendlier disposition seems finally to have arrived, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
