THE ROAD WARRIOR (1982) Dir; George Miller

Today's Pick?Just went with MoMI's Ford trib yesterday, Miller's WARRIOR mere weeks ago in advance of his new FURY ROAD, Kubrick's CLOCKWORK seems to never be OFFscreen in our movie-mad burg, Reed's THIRD MAN will simply have to wait a mere few weeks before I can make it my choice once more, and those of you who know me know that Fleming's WIND, in my humble opinion, needs to obey its prophetic title. A man can yawn only so much. So these titles are an automatic scratch, meaning we're left with what? Ozu always tempts, Ashby's BEING THERE is a rare occurence on our screens, and McCowan's absolutely unhinged eco-horror/southern gothic nightmare compels, actually. But ultimately, I gotta go with a rarer screening, assembled by a team dedicated to silent film screening in its proper format and venue: 35mm projection in a theater, with live piano accompaniment. Some clowns deserve our appreciation. Not the POLTERGEIST maniac, to be sure, but the ones who care about their audience. Let's show this micro-set a little love today.

Bruce Lawton, Steve Massa, and pianist extraordinaire Ben Model, collectively known as the Silent Clowns, present today a quintet of producer/studio head/gagman Hal Roach's chercest comedy shorts; DO HUSBANDS DECIEVE?, JUS' PASSIN' THROUGH, SOMEWHERE IN SOMEWHERE, SHERLOCK SLEUTH, and STARVATION BLUES, as part of the new series ROCKIN' THE ROACH! - WAVE TWO, unspooling at Lincoln Center's Library for the Perfoming Arts. The event is free to attend but insanely popular, so be sure to arrive ealry enough to claim your real estate and keep from becoming a fire hazard. Trust me.

P. S. The warm cuddle of the sun's friendlier disposition seems finally to have arrived, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
