August 18th 2015. Pick of the Day.

The sparse yet splendid shenanigans on the NYC rep circuit today include the continuing series Scorsese Screens at MoMA and One-Film Wonders at Anthology Film Archives. Let us go then, you and I;

Today's Pick? As summer wends its way toward its inevitable, but temporary TEMPORARY people, oblivion 2015, I must endorse one of the last and most worthwhile outdoor screenings of the season. At one of my fave spots. Under NYC's most beautiful sky. That's right, NYC's sky is better than your sky. That's the way it works. Just check the city charter.

William Wyler's ROMAN HOLIDAY gets a glorious DVD projection on the rooftop of the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center in Manhattan's West Village at sunset tonight. The air may swelter slightly, and the screen may tilt in the wind, but you'll be surrounded by an honest-to-goodness movie crowd once the film kicks off and there's even free popcorn. And it's even already popped! Whoah-ho-ho, City Parks Department, flaunt that ostentatious budget, whydontch'ya?

P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has reached its zenith, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
