September 24th 2015. Pick of the Day.

"Mister Berra, dont you know anything?!?"

"I don't even suspect anything."

Lawrence Peter Berra to one of his grade school teachers.

So long #8. My heart is heavy, but that's only beacuse you helped to fill it so.

And now, PLAY MOVIES!

Returning and continuing series this day include Vittorio De Sica: Attore, Regista, Seduttore at Film Forum, Modern Matinees: Earliest Days at MoMA, This is Celluloid: 35mm Encore! at Anthology Film Archives, and Ingrid Bergman at BAM at, well, BAM. The rep film rabbit hole looks thus;

MoMA

Modern Matinees: Earliest Days

GRANDMA'S BOY (1922) Dir; Fred Newmeyer

Anthology Film Archives

This is Celluloid: 35mm Encore!

VANISHING POINT (1971) Dir; Richard Sarafian

THE BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE (1956) Dir; Henry Hathaway

BowTie Chelsea Cinemas

DEAD RINGER (1964) Dir; Paul Henried

BAM Cinématek

Ingrid Bergman at BAM

EUROPA '51 (1952) Dir; Roberto Rossellini

Today's Pick? Recently chose all three of the following: the Matinees at MoMA, the De Sica hot stone massage at Film Forum, and the Bergman powder-puffing at BAM. So, finding myself in a corner, I choose to get behind the wheel of a white Dodge Challenger and bust through this road block. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the bestest. A smart guy said that once.

Richard Sarafian's VANISHING POINT unspools in its intended media at Anthology Film Archives as part of their recently ressurected and exceptional This is Celluloid: 35mm Encore! Anyone who's ever ridden in a NY taxi in midtown during rush hour, this is the film for you. Just don't take notes.

P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has begun its annual wane, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
