Today's Pick? NxNW really is one of those films you never really appreciate til you've seen it screened large, but I've seen it thus a number of times. I was lucky enough to attend last week's unveiling of the new 4K resto of ROCCO, so troppo presto! Lubitsch tempts, as does the memorably weird slasher flick from my youth unspooling in 35mm at the 'Hawk. But nah, I'm going with the film I've never seen by a filmmaker I only recently even heard of. Hey, he's a Marty guy, you think I'm taking sides against Scorsese?

1973's THE HOURGLASS SANATORIUM unspools its digital 1's and 0's in its brand new resto to kick off BAM Cinématek's 14-film trib The Waking Dreams of Wojciech Has. I know he's touted as Polish cinema's master surrealist, but I'm betting even he never dreamed up anything like the seventh inning of last night's Jays/Rangers Game 5. Who knows, I'll find out tonight.

P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has begun its annual wane, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability.
