November 18th 2015. Pick of the Day.

Continuing series this day are limited to one venue, MoMA; Modern Matinees: The Film Library at 10 and To Save and Project: The 13th MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation. The limited but luminous lunacy be thus;

MoMA

Modern Matinees: The Film Library at 10

To Save and Project: The 13th MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation

AMARCORD (1973) Dir; Federico Fellini

THE MONSTERS (1963) Dir; Dino Risi

Today's Pick? I think an ode to family is what the world needsd at this oment, and there are few better than John Ford's adap of Richard Llewellyn's HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, unspooling in glorious 35mm at MoMA as part of their exceptional series Modern Matinees: The Film Library at 10! No matter what corner of the earth we originate from, how our physical characteristics or languages or customs may differ, or what our individual or collective grudges may be, we can all agree on one thing; family is precious. At the moment, I can think of no better truism whose flames I feel the need to fan than that one.

P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has begun its annual wane, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
