December 15th 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Continuing series this day include Women Crime Writers at Film Forum, the Lynch/Rivette compare/contrast at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the Antonio Pietrangeli retro at MoMA, and American International Pictures, Part 2: Bikers, Drugs and Rock & Roll, unspooling at he maddeningly brevity-obsessed Anthology Film Archives. The halide hijinks be thus;

IFC Center

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) Dir; Frank Capra

Film Forum

Women Crime Writers

STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (1950) Dir; Alfred Hitchcock

THE AMERICAN FRIEND (1977) Dir; Wim Wenders

Film Society of Lincoln Center

Lynch/Rivette

WILD AT HEART (1990) Dir; David Lynch

PARIS BELONGS TO US (1961) Dir; Jacques Rivette

ERASERHEAD (1978) Dir; David Lynch

MoMA

Antonio Pietrangeli: A Retrospective

THE MAGNIFICENT CUCKOLD (1964) Dir; Antonio Pietrangeli

Anthology Film Archives

American International Pictures, Part 2: Bikers, Drugs and Rock & Roll

THE SAVAGE SEVEN (1968) Dir; Richard Rush

THE WILD ANGELS (1966) Dir; Roger Corman

Today's Pick? Although two other exceptional series are coming to a close soon, Film Forum's inky-black Women Crime Writers and AFA's AIP trib, I gotta go quite frankly with the three-fer that comes with a discount. And fantastic popcorn. And creepy magi- realist ultra-violence. Think you get that combo everyday, do ya?

The Film Society of Lincoln Center presents David Lynch's ERASERHEAD and WILD AT HEART, as well as kindred spirit Jacques Rivette's PARIS BELONGS TO US, as part of their unfolding Lynch/Rivette program. The purchase of more than 2 tix in any series provides a specially reduced entrance fee, and lord knows there's no surreal paranoid fever dream like a bargain surreal paranoid fever dream. Post-screening psychotherapy at a small additonal cost.

P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has begun its annual wane, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
