December 16th 2015. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Prepping for one more and last all-nighter movie marathon of 2015, one that begins in the morrow's antemeridian and releases us back into what will surely seem like a more mundane realm sometime before midnight on the same day. I'll be posting pics 'n vids from that event from a gala far, far away, in the hopes of raising some dough for charity, exactly like I did back in April for the Marvel Movie Marathon. So if you wanna get on board please click this link and read the exacts, or at least spread the word. It's a Xmas mitzvah, two descriptive terms which never normally intersect. But hey, such is the power of The Force. That's then though, let's get to now.

Continuing and slowly concluding series this day include the trib to Women Crime Writers at Film Forum, Modern Matinees: The Film Library Grows and the Antonio Pietrangeli festa at MoMA, and the Lynch/Rivette makeout sessio at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The propitious projectionery be thus;

IFC Center

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) Dir; Frank Capra

Film Forum

Women Crime Writers

LA RUPTURE (1970) Dir; Claude Chabrol

DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK (1952) Dir; Roy Ward Baker

MoMA

Modern Matinees: The Film Library Grows

STELLA DALLAS (1925) Dir; Henry King

Antonio Pietrangeli: A Retrospective

THE VISITOR (1963) Dir; Antonio Pietrangeli

Film Society of Lincoln Center

Lynch/Rivette

BLUE VELVET (1986) Dir; David Lynch

Today's Pick? I think it's about damn time I shone the Kliegs into the Film Forum's delightfully black shadows, in particular their dazzingly dark trib to Women Crime Writers, in even more particular Roy Ward Baker's DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK, which served not only as film debut to the luminous Anne Bancroft, but as first lead role to a little lady named Marilyn Monroe. The 6:50pm showing boats an intro by Library of America editor-in-chief Geoffrey O'Brien, who will no doubt discuss source novel MISCHIEF and its author Charlotte Armstrong. Nothing else about the joint is diabolical. Except maybe the popcorn. Which may actually be downright criminal. And I mean that in the best possible sense.

P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has begun its annual wane, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
