December 30th 2015. Pick of the Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

The calendar's end looms. The bowties are being dry cleaned. The champagne is being chilled to a specific temp. Balls are being hoisted, only to be felled. Keep it clean, knuckleheads. In other words we have precious little time to enjoy the remaining repertory rapscallionery offered by the finest film programers this side of anywhere. So, in the spirit of timeline's hasten, today's slate;
Film Forum
BALL OF FIRE (1941) Dir; Howard Hawks
Film Society of Lincoln Center
Imitations of Life: The Films of Douglas Sirk
A SCANDAL IN PARIS (1946) Dir; Douglas Sirk
MYSTERY SUBMARINE (1950) Dir; Douglas Sirk
Today's Pick? The Sirk extravaganza, which today features some titles excavated from the crates, as it were; the George Sanders vehicle A SCANDAL IN PARIS, and the late-propaganda spit in the eye to his onetime Nazi neighbors, MYSTERY SUBMARINE. I ask ye, what screams kick out the old, ring in the new like a retrospective of one of Hollywood's best applier of the melodramatic suds? Discount tix are available. Excellent popcorn is on sale. Just be careful not to sit next to the guy who loves the former and loathes the noise of the latter. Which should be every third seat. Chew quietly, Stockahz.

For reviews of contemporary cinema and my streaming habits (keep it clean!) check out my Letterboxd page. And be sure to follow me on both Facebook, where I provide further info and esoterica on the rep film circuit and star birthdays, and Twitter, where I provide a daily feed for the day's screenings and other blathery. Back soon with new Picks 'n perks, til then safe, sound, make sure the next knucklehead is too!
P. S. The warmer, fiercer cuddle of the sun's sunnier disposition has begun its annual wane, but believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
