January 14th 2016. Pick of the Day.

Bert Williams Lime Kiln Club Field Day Program
LIME KILN CLUB FIELD DAY (1913) Dir; Edwin Middleton

Today's Pick? I'mma cut to the chase: chose the Bard beatification just yesterday, skipping the Bert Williams hot stone massage knowing I've got a few more days to make it my choice. So I'm going all in on my fave new venue, the descriptive new perhaps a misnomer. It's been my fave since it's inception, since 2011, since my first encounter and entrance. Especially, since my first interaction with their comestible All-Stars, namely their one-two punch of tater tots 'n root beer. They are and remain a wonderful organization, dedicated to new fringe cinema, popular arthouse cinema, and cult bohemia that only those raised on the local programming of antenna set TV, repeat offenders at grindhouse venues, or kids wholly engrossed in the burgeoning world of 80's basic cable could appreciate. God bless the Nitehawk Cinema, and their monthly series The Deuce, which tonight brings us Vernon Zimmerman's UNHOLY ROLLERS, a master mash-up of roller-skate films and ah hell, I'm not gonna pretend. Never seen, and it's probably just exactly what it appears to be. But great examples of genre are great examples of genre, and, sight unseen, I'm trusting of the great programmers at the NH. They never let me down. Unlike roller skates.

P. S. Winter's icy grip seems to have finally taken hold of our fair city, and believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
