February 19th 2016. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

New and continuing series this day include Modern Matinees: A Pioneer Cowboy at MoMA, the salaciously satanic Witches' Brew at BAM Cinématek, the third leg of Anthology Film Archives' trib to American International Pictures, surely the most important and influential independent studio of the postwar era, Film Comment Selects at BAM Cinématek. and the eternally swank Cabaret Cinema at the Rubin Museum. The emulsified ebullience be thus;

Today's Pick? As much tempts on the callie today, does anything best Chaplin? Actually, does anything ever best Chaplin?

Charlie Chaplin's LIMELIGHT, what probably counts as the legendary filmmaker's last masterpiece, unspools in the legroom & cocktail-friendly screening lounge at the Rubin Museum, as part of their wonderfully indulgent Cabaret Cinema series. The price of a cocktail no longer grants you an automatic ticket, but who cares? Ten spondolas is well worth the experience of swiggin' back a martini whilst lazing back in a comfy chair as a masterpiece unfolds. Get there early, seats fill up pretty quick. But, really, as long as I get my seat, I'm good.
