March 17th 2016. Pick O' The St. Patrick's Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

The scant series on hand today include the slowly unwinding IT Girls: Flappers, Jazz Babies & Vamps! at Film Forum, and American International Pictures, Part Three at Anthology Film Archives. The 4-leaf foofaraw be thus;

Today's Pick? Well, I'd much prefer to send you out to a screening of an idyllic Ireland, like Ford's THE QUIET MAN or Mark Joffe's THE MATCHMAKER, even more difficult if not more geniune fare like Jim Sheridan's THE FIELD or IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER. But seeing as it's the day that honors my ancestors, folklore and all, I'll send you on a real quest for that pot o' gold, a journey beginning in late afternoon in one venue, then demanding your time and travel acumen to arrive in time for the evening screening in a whole other neighborhood. While it may seem no more noble an exercise this day than doffing the green and white Dr. Seuss hat and ordering 20 Irish Car Bombs at bars you've never been to, most likely will never return to, and would find the latter news most well-met by the barstaff thats will grudgingly tolerate your faux Oirish self, you will actually be offering your patronage to a pair of valuable establishments that bring nothing but quality fare to our faltering NYC culture. Hell, ya might just even get a green beer at the screening if you ask nicely. Or you may get a whack with a sheleighly. Depends on whether I'm there when you ask.
Mark Jones' infamous kickoff to the unfortunate LEPRECHAUN franchise unfolds this day, this grand noble day of my forebears, but here's the catch; wanna snag that cauldron of sheckles? Meaning the lifting of my utter contempt for you if you like this movie? Then you must first view it in the new rep film venue that grows in Bushwick, Syndicated, which also offers booze and grub, then subway surf...ahem, roide thah rainbew over to BillyBurg's beautiful Nitehawk Cinema for an evening screening of the very same film, where you also may find the finest root beer 'n tater tots combo in the 5 boroughs. And what pairing could be more Irish, I thank ye? In closing, ENJOY THE FLICK! And forgive me Grandma and Grandpa.

P. S. Winter's icy grip seems to have loosened on our fair metropolis, but milder weather aside some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
