March 24th 2016. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

New and continuing series this day include ah what's the use?!? As kinetic the NYC rep film scene proves on a consistent basis I've had but one series to choose from over the last three days! So here goes with the halide hijinks;

Film Forum

IT Girls: Flappers, Jazz Babies & Vamps!

LOOSE ANKLES (1930) Ted Wilde

EMPLOYEES ENTRANCE (1933) Dir; Roy Del Ruth

GET YOUR MAN (1927) Dir; Dorothy Arzner

And today's Pick g'damn I can only prop up so much artifice! Let's just cut the nonsense and get to the point. For the site's 1st Triple-Dip three days running I direct you all to Film Forum's terrific and sadly ending IT Girls: Flappers, Jazz Babies & Vamps! Take advantage of the two-fer of Wildes's LOOSE ANKLES & Del Ruth's EMPLOYEES' ENTRANCE, but focus the bulk of your attention towards the one-off of Dorothy Arzner's GET YOUR MAN, a Clara Bow vehicle directed by the lone consistently emlpoyed female filmmaker in the era bridged between Alice Guy Blanche and Lois Weber, and the emergence of Ida Lupino, then Agnes Varda, followed by Elaine May and Joan Micklin Silver. We still have disparity among the genders as regards the director's chair to this day. But gains have been made, and the gap has lessened. So taking into account that March is Women's Month, let's just go ahead and award this here Pick properly. Here's to women in film, and to their one day equal footing in the film world. To quote the immortal MCA, to all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends, I wanna offer my love and respect to the end.

P. S. Winter's icy grip seems to have loosened on our fair metropolis, but milder weather aside some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
