April 10th 2015. Pick of the Day.

A head cold derailed me from my sacred post yesterday, as April's co-opting of March's worst habits served to bedrid me somethin' fierce. Apologies for the skip, but I return today with much to mend mine malady. Alliteration, bebeh.

Amongst today's luminous continuing series include Strictly Sturges at Film Forum, Acteurism: Joel McCrea at MoMA, Space is the Place: AfroFuturism on Film at BAM Cinématek, Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person! at Anthology Film Archives, Justice in Film at the New York Historical Society, and the eternally swank Cabaret Cinema at the Rubin Museum of Art. The movie mad-hattery be thus;

April 8th 2015. Pick of the Day.

For those keeping count, I am now exactly three weeks away from attending and live-blogging the 27-hour Marvel Movie Marathon. Those of you who have long gambled good cash money on the date of my demise, this might be your best and most imminent shot at the win. Those of you who believe in my ability to stay conscious during superhero movies, stay tuned. I have a proposition shortly forthcoming for yaz.

Continuing series this day include the manscaping of Joel McCrea at MoMA and the Bergmanesque strawberry wilding of Dick Miller at Anthology Film Archives. The 4-perf foofaraw be thus;

April 7th 2015. Pick of the Day.

May I just express a mere modicum of gratitude that winter seems finally to be over, and that the only ice we might be exposed to going forward will by skated upon by a playoff-bound Rangers team? Not that I'm a hockey fan, mind yaz, but it'll be good to watch a NY team pursue the trophy once more after a few years of dejection. I'm not looking at you Yankees, you've given me so many trophies they hadda build a whole new stadium to hold 'em. I'm also not looking at you Knicks, mainly because, well, I'm just not looking at you. In fact, let's revert focus and discuss watching movie screens. But go Rangers.

Continuing series today include Haute Couture on Film at the French Institute, or Alliance Française, and Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person! at Anthology Film Archives. The blustery box-office be thus;

April 5th 2015. Pick of the Day.

Happy Easter, Seester! To those of you Stockahz who observe, I wish you a peaceful day of friends and family celebrating your faith. To those non-observant, hey, no reason ya can't fill up on glazed ham and chocolate anyway. To all, regardless, here's hoping ya catch a classic flick. Continuing series today include Film Forum Jr. at Film Forum, Overdue: James B. Harris at BAM Cinématek, and Dick Miller: Onscreen and In Person! at Anthology Fim Archives. The holiday hare hijinks be thus;

April 4th 2015. Pick of the Day.

So here we are, in what the civilized world regards as climate acceptable. Some rain, sure. Some accelerated winds mayhap. What really counts is this: Opening Day is Sunday. First pitch at 8:05pm ET. You proved a formidable foe, Winter 2015, but you failed to learn the lesson of all the previous Winters; you thought you would live forever. And while I must admit I still feel it too early a call to say you're not going to go full zombie on us, returning after your funeral to chomp us further, I do feel like the worst of your work is buried deep. Okay now I've just succeeded in scaring myself. Please feel free to reach out to comfort and convince me regarding Winter '15's demise. Wait! Something's clambering up my stairwell! It's Winter! How do I kill it?!?!?!

Ahem.

Continuing series today include Overdue: James B. Harris at BAM Cinématek, the Max Roach huggery as part of the Silent Clowns Film Series at the Library for the Performing Arts, The Most Beautiful: The War Films of Shirley Yamaguchi and Setsuko Hara at the Japan Society, and the warm & fuzzy Dick Miller: On Screen and In Person! at Anthology Film Archives. The frenetic filmic foofaraw be thus;

April 2015! Ninjas, The Vertigo Effect, & Dick Miller! Or As We Call It In The Bronx, FRIDAY!

Hallo Stockahz! And welcome to April 2015, baseball, and tempratures repectable, even woundrous! There is much to get to in this overview, the second written one since the suspension of the podcast, but I'm very happy to announce a new 'cast will be kicking off mid-month! I'm excited about the changes and hope you dig the new direction. in the meantime, let's get to this current 30-day sked!

March 31st 2015. Pick of the Day.

So March '15, this whole out-like-a-lamb thing, that just a colorful colloquialism with nothing more to back it up than poetry? Shall I expect this lamb sometime in April, perhaps at Easter dinner? Is it asking too much that you strangle Winter with your frigid, bitter fingers until it is dead at last? Seriously, if I'm asking too much just say so. I'm always anxiously demanding when MLB nears.

But really, though, Winter must die. See to it, willya?

Today's lone series is The Most Beautiful: The War Films of Shirley Yamaguchi and Setsuko Hara. The nitrate stock nutjobbery be thus;

March 29th 2015. Pick of the Day.

My thoughts and concern go out to those displaced, injured and/or finacially distressed by last Thursday's disaster on 2nd Avenue. I urge those who share my worry to visit the following link should you wish to donate/volunteer to help those most drastically affected. NYC is nothing if not the sum total of its people, and we are always at our best when things are at their worst.

Ongoing series this day are limited to, but not by, Film Forum Jr. at Film Forum, and The Killer Must Kill Again!: Giallo Fever, Part Two at Anthology Film Archives. The four-perf foofaraw be thus;

March 27th 2015. Pick of the Day.

Y'know, when February '15 kicked off with that Snowpocalypse that never was, I didn't mock, I didn't grumble, I didn't cry "f**kin' de Blasio". I remained steadfastly grateful that a major strom had passed us with nary a whimper of damage. So I believe I'm within my rights to absolutely lose my remaining composure at the mere suggestion that a day once promised to be mild and clear might now dump yet another few inches of the stuff Hunter Mountain craves on our stoops. At the end of March. In NYC. I'm officially willing to sacrifice a living organism in some bizarre tribal ritual in order to end this winter. By which I mean only one thing: where can I find A-Rod?

New and continuing series this day include the last of the Ginger Rogers heavy petting at MoMA, Justice in Film at the New York Historical Scoiety, The Killer Must Kill Again!: Giallo Fever, Part Two at Anthology Film Archives, The Most Beautiful: The War Films of Shirley Yamaguchi and Setsuko Hara at the Japan Society, Required Viewing: MAD MEN's Movie Influences at Museum of the Moving Image, and the persistently schmancy Cabaret Cinema at the Rubin Museum of Art. March's celluloid lamb begins its exit strut thusly;

March 26th 2015. Pick of the Day.

This is yet another year that sees the TCM Film Fest kick off sans moi. The stars will yet align to accomodate my presence, next year most likely. Meanwhile I wish all my TCMParty pals and Nitrate Stock friends a fantastic time! I look forward to your covergae of the weekend's glitz and glam. Have fun!

Continuing series today include the Ginger Rogers threshold-carry at MoMA and The Killer Must Kill Again!: Giallo Fever, Part Two at Anthology Film Archives. The March winddownery be thus;
