January 28th 2015. Pick of the Day.

Well, maybe we didn't quite get the snow day we all wanted yesterday. But we got another day. I think that's the real takeaway from the near-catastrophic climatic conditions threatened, that hovered oh so closely above our fair metropolis the eve prior, yet spared the citizens of NYC its wrath. Massachusetts cannot boast of a similar positive outcome. Should you be of the inclination to complain about the mistaken predictions, the over-reach of the forecasters, the proclivity of apocalyptic pronouncements provided courtesy the 24hr cable news cycle, I ask simply the following; would you currently be happier had they been proven correct?

This is my way of saying I'm glad the worst didn't happen. So let's get to the rep film meshugenah.

New and continuing series this day include the Orson Welles trib at Film Forum, Adjunct Curator Dave Kehr's courting of raven-haired siren Joan Bennett at MoMA, and the sleekly and subtly entitled French Classics of the 1930's-40's at Anthology Film Archives. Let the wimwammery commence;

January 27th 2015. Pick of the Day.

SNOW DAY!!! SNOW DAY!!! The Snowpocalypse has cancelled life as we know it, and wild abandon, or quilts 'n mallow laden cocoa, are decreed this day's order! Huzzah to nature's awesome power! Three cheers for the humbling destructive forces of the elements! Bully, I say, to the might of the wind and snow and what?

Snowpocalypse never happened?

The city isn't crippled by mounds of the pure undriven white stuff?

We can freely stroll to our nearest pizza parlor and order a slice? Or to our nabe dealer and pick up a few grams of the pure undriven white stuff ya see what I did there?

Well, why am I the last to know these things? Way to go, people who should nudge me awake and inform me!

Well, it's still a sorta hard call to make. So many venues pre-cancelled their scheduled events in what they believed would be the wake of a storm of historic (not my word) proportions, that I'm now no longer sure which are going forward with their screenings. As we simply got a cute frosting here in the city, I'm going to assume it'll be biz as usual, but I urge you to check in advance to see if all systems are GO. Here be today's potential, probable shenanigans;

January 25th 2015. Pick of the Day.

Okay. I'll just admit it. The week just got away from me. It happens. As next week, the last of the month, is the one where I get to work building February's calendar, writing that month's podcast, as well as maintaining the Twitter feed and other sundry and wherewithal, I hereby promise to be back on my game. At least as well as I was before. No jokes, please.

Continuing series today includes Screwball Romance at IFC Center, Film Forum Jr. and the Orson Wellestrib at Film Forum, New York Jewsih Film Festival '15 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and French Classics of the 1930's-40's at Anthology Film Archives. The movie mad mishegoss be thus;

January 23rd 2015. Pick of the Day.

I give up at this point. I'm done. I've registered my complaints, I've made my feelings known, I've told my side of the story to the equivalent of the cosmic HR department. So I'm just gonna say this; all months going forward? Speed by me as fast as you wanna. I'm just gonna live with it. Or complain to Stephen Hawking. I suspect he's got an explanation about all this and he's just being his usual coy self. Friggin' rock star.

New and Continuing series this day include Orson Welles at Film Forum, Acteurism: Joan Bennett at MoMA, The Dark Side of the Sun: John Zorn on Japanese Cinema at the Japan Society, and French Classics of the 1930's-40's at the brevity obsessed Anthology Film Archives. January 22nd 2015. Pick of the Day

I know. I know. I KNOW, okay, I missed yestedray's post! Look, occasionally life takes over in the form of natural disaster, family emergency or unplanned drinking session. Thankfully, the latter was the case yesterday, as a buddy required some vent time and I happened to be the shoulder weighed on. And happily. So apologies, I left the article drift. Back today, let's just behave like it never happened, agreed?

Okay. I'll say it: there's nobody else but you, baby I swear. We good?

Well, with the wind chill factor, it's a robust 20 degrees today. I'm amazed the molecular activity in my brain hasn't come to a full stop. On the other hand, it might have. The following article will serve as proof either way, Pamela Fallon Thornley. :-)

Continuing series this day include Screwball Romance at IFC Center, and the Orson Welles trib at Film Forum. The 4-perf foofaraw be thus;

January 16th 2015. Pick of the Day.

So, they announced the nominees for something called The Oscars yesterday. And apparently a lotta people got angry about that. Not because of who was included but because of who wasn't. And this became something of a national, no, an international brouhaha. Because the parsing out of little gold statues of bald naked men with swords are life or death. Or something. Seems to me anyway. Lemme know when the pools get started.

Continuing series this day include Screwball Romance at IFC Center, the Orson Welles trib at Film Forum, and the Joan Bennett and Robert Altman smoochery at MoMA. The rigmarole looks thus;

January 15th 2015. Pick of the Day.

15th of the month, let me count the ways I hate thee; you arrive absolutely unannounced, with the rest of the teens and the entirety of the 20's in tow, just expecting a free stay without asking. You wile away the days seemingly unnoticed, up to the moment I have my Zoinks! snap-to when I see half the month's blown past. Just who do you think you are, day of the month, that you an simply barge into my passage of time and abscond with a sizable chunk of it?

Oh, I can't stay mad at you. You're bringing me closer to baseball, after all. Hugs.

And in other, more pertinent news, continuing series this day include
the Orson Welles trib at Film Forum, the Joan Bennett huggery at MoMA, and the Chelsea Classics series at the BowTie Chelsea Cinemas. The still before battle looks thus;
